You didn’t actually fail to selfupdate.  What failed were a couple of 
operations related to integrating with your local binary repository and the 
official project binary distribution, which doesn’t yet exist for 10.11.  You 
can solve these issues as follows:

1) Disable the remote binary integration by using “fink configure”
2) Run “fink scanpackages” to set up the missing Packages files for your local 
machine.
