Peter O'Gorman's written some code for replacing the need for
system-xfree86 in the fink CVS code (and I've updated it a bit). If
you're brave and/or insane, please give it a shot and let us know if you
run into any kinks.
It doesn't take effect unless you have no current system-* packages for
X11 installed, so you will probably need to do something like the
following to have the new code take effect:
~ sudo dpkg -r --force-all system-xfree86 \
system-xfree86-42 system-xfree86-43
(and so on)
