Ran fink selfupdate, and then fink update-all and received same error.

I have no idea what to do next.

Following up: I got bit by a version of this bug today. I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like one of the X11 updates downgraded the compatibility version of libpng12.0.dylib (which is generally not a good thing ever to do). You're going to want to rebuild gd2-shlibs.

The latest X11 package from macosforge has libpng version 27.0.0 but 10.5.3 has 25.0.0. So if you previously installed the macosforge package and then updated to 10.5.3, libpng (and other things) will get downgraded. You must reinstall X11-2.2.1.pkg after updating. In fact, once you've installed X11 from macosforge, you should always reinstall it after any system upgrade since the version Apple includes is not quite the latest. One of the penalties of using the latest and greatest. :)
