Hi,

that g77 had (as January 17th) failed to compile on intel machines. Has any of you been succesfull (or not) on doing that? I'm about to buy a mac and since I'm using g77 very often I have some doubts about it.

The problem is that g77 is dead. It has been killed by the gcc developers. It doesn't come with gcc-4.0 any more, and it seems that earlier gcc versions don't exist and don't build on Mac/intel. You would have to try to switch to gfortran. Lots of Fink packages have the same problem right now, but how big the problem really is is not yet known, because the big switch to gfortran hasn't yet seriously started.

I'm going to update gcc4 (which includes gfortran) to 4.1 today, and then start updating packages to use gfortran instead of g77. Hopefully we can get rid of the g77 package before too long.
