Hm. Perhaps this one needs to be sent upstream? The bug is actually extremely easy to reproduce in an octave session. I don't know that the following code is minimal, but it is small: info = struct (zeros (0, 1), {"name", "date", "bytes", "isdir", "datenum", "statinfo"}); info(1,1).name = "asdf" These lines are inspired by line 115 of /sw/share/octave/3.4.3/m/miscellaneous/dir.m . On my x86_64 build of Octave it works fine, on my i386 one I get the error: invalid assignment to cs-list outside multiple assignment message.
