If it matters, I am located near Boston in the USA and I use a commercial ISP (Comcast) to access the internet. Thanks for your help. —Ian Here’s my (working for me) sources.list and fink.conf.  Are you trying to connect from behind a proxy?  That’s another potential reason for this behavior, and one where stalling rather than returning an error is a likely outcome.  If you’re using a proxy, then make sure that it’s set up properly via “fink configure”, and that information should get used by apt-get as well.
