At the moment the new API and the legacy one are mostly compatible, actually the legacy API is now a thin wrapper over the new API. The major difference is that we introduced an explicit Cursor/ResultSet interface and it somewhat changed the legacy named cursor semantics (which is fixable, I believe, we just need to find the best solution).
