Easy option - deprecate the command. A more clever one - not DROP (nullify) the source but set some flag to HIDE it instead. That flag would mean returning NULL instead of source blob for user requests, while still returning a proper source blob for internal requests. A compromise - ALTER ... HIDE SOURCE may be implemented via SET TO NULL in v3 and via the aforementioned trick starting with v4.
