Well, I used debian because it was what im familiar with the build
environment for firebird for and the base image is 51mb, a completely built
2.5 image is 75mb 3.0 balloons up to 120mb. I could switch to building
under jessie-slim which has a 30mb base size. Note these sizes are all the
compressed sizes on docker hub

I can also look into building under alpine which has a 2mb base image size,
I'm just not terribly familiar with setting up a build environment then
cleaning up after.

The big advantage in using a common image like debian:jessie is if the end
user already has it then everything is copy on write and the actual
download is only the difference between jessie and the final size, ie if
you have jessie and you pull 2.5 you're really only pulling 25mb for
firebird
