Ok I know this one is regularly discussed, but I thought I would give this a go recently as I'm rebuilding my machine and actually don't see a need to have VS2005 on there as well, so in it's current form it only has VS2008 Pro installed.
Now I've used the registry build refered to in a previous mailing that is stored in the Version Control for VS2008, and first thought I would report the experiences.
ADO.NET Provider Build: 2.1.0 Release Build from SourceForge
DDEX Build: 2.0.2 Release Build from SourceForge
Visual Studio Version: 2008 Pro (9.0.21022.8 RTM)
Visual Studio 2008 SDK Version: 1.0
Windows XP Professional with SP3 applied.
Whilst I have run the registry settings, and have also correctly modified the machine.config, there are a few things I have observed that I am not sure have been reported previously.
1) When I go to the Server Explorer, I can start the process of adding a new Data Connection. On Data Connections, right-click and select Add Connection.
2) On Choose Data Source dialog, I select Firebird Data Source and press Continue.
3) The Firebird Add Connection dialog is then displayed. However, this is where things start to behave incorrectly. If you click on any editable field, and press any key on the keyboard, or try to select a file by the Database file browser, the form instantly closes without even an error message.
I'm assuming many haven't seen this before, but I'm hoping someone might know what happens at the point you interact, and may be able to isolate the possible causes.
Please feel free to ask any questions, and if I am able to answer them, I will do my best to provide additional feedback.
Kind regards,
Scott :)
