As the subject states, firebug doesn't properly work with the new HTML 5 renderer activated by about:config -> html5.enabled.
Almost everything works, except for the javascript part that doesn't get started, firebug sees al the scripts that exist but it can't see the contents and because of this it's useless, because there is no code to see or set breakpoints on.
