I wasn't thinking to use the fault handler, I was just planning on every response being an object with an error property that will usually be null, and checking for it myself. Your idea would be much nicer, but I doubt it's possible, since we're pretending everything worked fine. Maybe changing the status code in a HttpHandler would be a nicer solution after all!
