I have searched all day and I still can't figure out how to do this.
 
Did I ask something that was hard to do?
 
This is what I have learned...
I can add an event to my custom component that, when clicked, will alert
the parent to change state - if the parent is listening.
 
But heck if I can find some sample code that will help me get started.

"Adobe Flex 2 Training from the Source" is really quite good IMO and it
goes over states and transitions pretty well.  Lynda.com is great, but I
think this book is more extensive than the current Lynda courses.
