Paul, I can vouch for the ASUS P5W with the Intel 975X chipset. Not particularly cheap but far superior performance to my previous AMD athlon board. I'm running the P5WD2 with a non-dual core cpu (P-4 HT LGA 775, 3.4 Ghz). It simply purrs along with 683 feeding a Firebox over 1394. CPU load averages about 6-9% running PowerSDR in "letter box" mode (@96k). Don't skimp on the memory for this board. Look at the v/low latency dual channel (DDR2 800) stuff, as its my understanding that memory performance is more important than an over abundance in capacity (in this specific case).
Good luck! CPU reading varies a lot, from 50% to 70% generally. Tuning is not responsive as before with mouse wheel, there's a lot more going on as the display changes. Popping (or dropouts) in received audio is very noticable, audio/dsp buffers at 1024/1024. I don't think there's anything wrong with the software, and I like the new features, but I think it's time for a new motherboard and cpu. Here's what I'm looking at: ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M sharing L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor Then I need a new case, 500W power supply, new drives, the works. The old pc gets shoved down to the next desk and becomes the #2 machine. A new pc like this will just barely keep me afloat for media center and hdtv as well. _______________________________________________ FlexRadio mailing list FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archive Link: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ FlexRadio Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com
