The AC3D model smoothing and transparency patches are now in the main plib CVS (the transparency patch has been there for a while), so it will no longer be necessary to run a patched version of plib to get smooth aircraft models, as long as you are using the latest plib from CVS.
The plib people are making noises about putting out a stable release; with luck, it will be ready in time for our next release.
