According to the above news report, Engineered Material Arresting Systems or EMAS are available on 18 runways at 14 airports with short runways (I assume they mean in the US, they mention kennedy (KJFK) specifically as having at least one). They are sometimes placed at the end of runways with no 1000 foot overrun area.

Is this something that can be modeled in FlightGear? Any ideas how it could be done? (post 1.0)
