I don't have time to do this myself, but my script that assembles the
gallery page and creates the medium resolution and thumbnail images and
links everything together does support captions.
What needs to be done (and it's slightly tedious) is to create <file>.txt
for each <file>.jpg or <file>.png with the appropriate caption. If someone
can create those and send them to me, the contents of the .txt file will
replace the file name on the gallery page.
