Thanks for your answer and thanks for having written this code for 
bodnar devices :)

The js_serial_preload.so library compiles out of the box, but it seems 
that does not work, or at least the ioctl is not intercepted:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/local/lib/js_serial_preload.so ./lsjs
/dev/input/js0: "Saitek Saitek Pro Flight Yoke"  (7 axes, 23 buttons)
/dev/input/js1: "Leo Bodnar BU0836X Interface"  (2 axes, 32 buttons)
/dev/input/js2: "Leo Bodnar BU0836X Interface"  (2 axes, 32 buttons)

No change in names.
