Xft2 and Fontconfig were not ready for XFree86 4.2, but several projects
would like use them before XFree86 4.3 ships this fall. To help those
projects along, as well as get a bit more exposure for these new
libraries, I'm planning on making a separate release for these packages.

I've started packaging things up and have source tarballs available on my
website at

        http://keithp.com/fonts

I just now realized that we'll also need a release of Xft1 that uses
fontconfig to avoid duplicate font configuration mechanisms. I'll get
that packaged up as soon as I can.

These packages can be built with either imake or autoconf; I'd like those
with an interest to give the autoconf build process a spin and see if it
works. I've only tested on FreeBSD and Linux.

Also present there are patches for Qt3 to make that build against Xft2.
They were intended to build with Xft1 as well, but I haven't tested that.
