I just remembered that there was another case I worked around when writing that
document:
1. **`n8.c`** → **`n8.s`**
That should format as two separate boldface-monospace groups, but it currently
([04de083ec8]) greedily grabs up everything between the first ** and last **
instead, leaving the two ** in the middle as literal asterisks.
