I fixed it by changing my userid to just "michael" like on my Linux systems
where this works without a hitch.  It seems that userids with spaces are
causing some kind of problem.  Since I hardly ever do anything on Windows
development-related I just never caught on.

I'll see if I can replicate this problem on another (custom-built) repo so I
can mail it off to you for investigation, OK?
