Had an old Micro Soft USB mouse that would simply cease working after an indeterminate amount of time (15 seconds to 40 minutes). Unplugging & re-plugging made it come back. Eventually I mashed it with a hammer, which made me feel immensely better. Also recently bought a wireless USB mouse that worked exactly once. I don't know about anyone else's experience, but USB mouses seem to be pretty hit&miss.
