I don't know, but because of crappy volume management in legacy
DOS kernels you MUST REBOOT after exiting FDISK, otherwise
random errors are a "MUST" :-(

Because not every SCANDISK looks for the same errors (and most
of them (ME, XP, Wi$ta, FreeDOS, ...) are faulty anyway ...) and the
great "." and ".." AKA "dot" and "dotdot" entries are inherently useless
and many DOS and non-DOS kernels do ignore them mostly or fully.
