Peter,

There is an answer for that; power the mike with two AAA batteries. More
correctly, use the batteries for backup if or when you're running off of a DC
power source other than a running car or DC power supply.

        buttons

Unless this "mobile" radio is being plugged into vehicle power, you
might want to be hesitant to assume that USB is going to be the
panacea for your needs (whether it is keyboard, microphone, etc.).

A device designed to be plugged into a PC which is in turn plugged
into mains power isn't really designed to be efficient enough when
powered off a battery.

I'll use Google's Android @ Home as a recent example. Sure, they
might be encouraging hobbyists to develop USB devices that plug into a
mobile phone, but Android @ Home devices are USB Hosts, not USB
Devices.  They supply power to the phone, not the other way around;
otherwise the phone's battery would get drained very quickly.

Mobile phones get their battery life only because the engineers put a
LOT of effort to sweat over every last uA.
