Which FreeType version?  We use libtool, and recent versions should
work for cygwin too, AFAIK.

There are two different libraries: The old FreeType 1 which is no
longer maintained, and the new FreeType 2, with 2.1.10 as the current
version.  You can download it from freetype.org.
