I think I found it. I tried several things at the same time, but I thing deleting the /var/cache/freevo/romlist-0.pickled file did the trick. Let me know if it works for you so I can rule out any of the other stuff I tried. Thanks Joe

What distro are you using? I have the same problem on my gentoo box,
however on my debian box there is no such problem. I tried to figure out
if it is freevo or xmame that gives the message, but found myself a bit
clueless. I would therefore also be very happy to get some help on this
issue.
