i'm sorry to report the passing of walter gantt, member of the baltimore
ethical society for over 50 years. although recently inactive in the society,
walter was a dedicated member who served in multiple roles over the years to
help keep the ethical society a going concern. at various times he served as
sunday school teacher, director, member of the board, and various officer
positions including president. he also volunteered his time to represent bes
at the american ethical union on the religious education committee, the
leadership committee, and the aeu board, including being elected aeu secretary,
a position that was curtailed when he went off to join the peace corps in which
he served 2 years in honduras. most recently, walter served admirably as the
chair of the leadership search committee that brought us fritz williams.
following is the death notice from today's baltimore sun, which gives details
of the funeral arrangements that have been made by walter's family. we expect
that there will be a memorial service at bes within the next month or so, and
