BURNING THE FUTURE: Coal in America

7:30 pm, Friday, July 10

Every 11-1/2 days, the explosive equivalent of the Hiroshima atomic bomb is
unleashed upon the mountains of southern West Virginia and eastern Kentucky -
for coal. Faced with toxic ground water, dangerous sludge dams, the
obliteration of 1.4 million acres of mountains and a government that appeases
industry, heroic local activists fight to arouse the nation's help in
protecting their mountains, saving their families, and preserving their way of
life. (Director: David Novack, 89 minutes)

The film has won several awards and been an official selection at over
a dozen film festivals around the country.
