It is my understanding that ITS runs an Exchange server, and some
ITS people lurk on the list so we might hear more details.
Historically, Exchange wasn't up to facing the world (for various
reasons) and a Linix mail server was placed in front of it.

I believe some of the faculty who use Linux mail clients just POP
or IMAP from the Exchange server.  Some of us, like Jon and me,
had our email redirected from the world-facing Linux server
before Exchange could become part of the picture and that has
worked fine too.
