Brett,

Flash can consume web services from anywhere however the sandbox security
in the Flash player prevents a SWF from DIRECTLY accessing a site deemed
to be on another 'domain'. The meaning of 'domain' there is very specific
and is explained well in the Flash MX Security White paper (is the an MX
2004 one yet?), which you can grab from Macromedia.com. The AS Ref which
comes with MX2004 also discusses further sandbox restrictions in great
depth about page 20.

You can work with the sandbox restrictions by implementing an external
policy file on the server which SERVES the web service, which explicitly
allows access from your domain. You can also implement a 'transparent
proxy' to circumvent the issue. Check out this article
http://www.swfoo.com/archives/000012.html .

Cheers
