We need a Cisco 2600 router on 12.x to send its logs to SmartCenter for correlation. SmartCenter is on Windows 2000 R55 HFA11 and the gateway is an IP530 on HFA08. There is a rule in place to accept the syslog service from the router (which is between the firewall and the ISP). When I configure an Edge box to send its logs via syslog to the external interface of the IP530, we can see the traffic but the router folks can't get it to work on their end. There's nothing hitting the gateway from the router at all.
I have the router configured in SmartCenter Pro as an OSE object but I'm not sure I have it configured properly. It only has one IP address, and that's on the Ethernet interface. The other interfaces are serial connections to the T-1's. I did not add any topology entries to the OSE object because there didn't seem to be any need. We do not have an OSE license but supposedly one is not needed just to receive logs.
Can anyone give me some pointers on what needs to be done on the router to configure it to send its logs via syslog? Also, will it still continue to log locally so the router admins can view the logs as well without needing access to SmartCenter?
Thanks for any hints,
Ray
