As for the scroll fragment, had the Antiquities Authority been notified by law that the fragment came from an illegal excavation, those looting the caves would have been arrested and the sum of $3,000 could have been saved. Look for more looting in the near future once the word gets out that scrolls are being purchased by those who should know better. Seems that some archaeologists never learn from the past.
