Ready Set School Kick Off Ready Set School, a program of the Winona Community Connections project, helps children get school supplies and clothing to help them succeed in school. The Ready Set School committee is getting ready to raise funds for the 2003/2004 year. A kick off celebration will be held on Friday, February 14, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. at Winona National Bank. Information about the program and refreshments will be provided. How does Ready Set School work? In April all families with children in K-12 through Winona County will receive an informational letter and application. Those families who meet the income eligibility requirements will receive vouchers in order to purchase supplies and clothing. The vouchers will be distributed in July, just in time for back to school sales. School supply barrels will also be available throughout the county during the summer months to collect supplies that will be distributed to all the schools throughout the county. How successful is Ready Set School? This fall 765 students in K-12 received vouchers. Of that number, 573 students were enrolled in Winona Area Public Schools. The number of elementary students served was 324, there were 145 middle school students served, 99 high school students and five students from the Area learning Center also received vouchers. How is Ready Set School Funded? Primarily through donations. Winona Area Public Schools raised $1,200.00 during the 2nd annual walk run held on opening day. Donations from local businesses, service groups and individuals make Ready Set School a reality.
