I use alfalfa as cricket tub substrate... they eat it (in addition to all the other goodies I feed them) and it helps with the smell of cricket feces. I buy bags of alfalfa sold as hamster food. Of course, there is no substitute for periodic cleaning for keeping the smell of crickets down!
