Hadoop 2.8.0 is the first feature release since the year of 2015 in the Hadoop-2.x line, and brings a number of significant enhancements. I'd like to highlight following major changes [1] coming in 2.8.0 Hadoop Common - HADOOP-12691 - CSRF Protection for REST APIs - HADOOP-12723, HADOOP-12548, HADOOP-12537 - S3A improvements - HADOOP-13037 - Azure Data Lake (ADL) support - HADOOP-12635 - WASB improvements Hadoop HDFS - HDFS-9711, HDFS-8155, HDFS-9057 - WebHDFS enhancements - HDFS-9244 - Support nested encryption zones - HDFS-9239 - DataNode Lifeline Protocol Hadoop YARN - YARN-41 - NM shutdown more graceful - YARN-313 - Full support for dynamic NM resource configuration - YARN-4349 - CallerContext support in YARN audit log Hadoop MapReduce - MAPREDUCE-6304 - Allow node labels get specificed in submitting MR jobs - MAPREDUCE-6415 - Add a new tool to combine aggregated logs into HAR files This release has 2917 resolved issues with the following breakdown: - 774 in Hadoop Common - 1137 in HDFS - 774 in YARN - 232 in MapReduce For more details, please read the changes log [2]. IMPORTANT NOTES - This release is *not* yet ready for production use. Issues are being ironed out via testing and downstream adoption given numerous commits were landing.
