When I've had strange stuff like that happen, and from the posts of
others I've read, the culprit more often than not turns out to be the
keyboard going bad, maybe because it got wet or something, or for a
wireless keyboard, a low battery or a bad link between the keyboard and
its pickup).

So... check to see if your numlock key is jammed on...  It might be
worthwhile to try swapping out the keyboard, just to be sure.  If you're
not in a place with others available, consider buying a junk keyboard for
backup and testing purposes.  They're available for well under US$10, if
you look around.
