Make sure that you have HID Input support in your kernel, otherwise, there won't be a driver for the mouse. If you intend on hotplugging the mouse, make sure you have hotplug installed as well. Once you have HID Input support and hotplug, plugging in the mouse should result in an extra /dev/input/mouseX device.
