Could it be simply that the processor is overheating and shutting down to protect itself? My Dell laptop used to do the same thing 6 months after I bought it. I took a can of compressed air to the vents and a pile of dust shot out. Now it works fine! Maybe install a CPU monitoring tool (e.g. gkrellm2) and keep an eye on the temperature?
