I searched around and found the tip to use a newer driver.
I downloaded it here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/e1000/files/e1000e%20stable/1.2.20/

But if I try to compile the driver I get:

Does the one that comes with the kernel not work for some reason? It's here according to the search page:

Just build it in or add it as a module. In case you are new, go to Device Drivers, Network Device support, Ethernet 1000 Mbit then look for Intel Pro/1000. Sort of lists it backwards up there. ;-)
