Just a guess: What about SCSI Tape (CONFIG_CHR_DEV_ST) and/or SCSI Generic 
(CONFIG_CHR_DEV_SG) support, maybe also CONFIG_SCSI_MULTI_LUN (multiple 
LUNs) in your kernel?
