Thanks Neil. It seems that this specific command doesn't give me a lot
of information:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] /etc/make.profile $ ls -l /etc/make.profile/
total 12
drwxr-xr-x  2 root root 4096 Jan 21  2005 2.4
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  679 Mar 28 14:35 packages
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  343 Dec  3  2004 parent
[EMAIL PROTECTED] /etc/make.profile $

However within the packages file I see this:

# $Header: /var/cvsroot/gentoo-x86/profiles/default-linux/x86/2005.0/packages,v
1.3 2005/03/28 22:09:18 wolf31o2 Exp $

So I guess this machine is 2005.0, as most likely are most of my other
machines. Sorry Jamie - no help here.
