If I've followed this discussion aright you're running gnome, so why do
you have -gnome set against evince?

When I start "evince" as root I get:

(evince:24321): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to store changes into `/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: Failed to create file '/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel.KSAKVW': No such file or directory

(evince:24321): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to set the permissions of
`/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: No such file or directory

There are no errors when I start it as user.
