The shutdown looks totally normal in the Xorg.0.log...

All my machines have .icewm/menu as a symlink to .icewm/toolbar. The
crashes occur on both 32 and 64-bit installs. After more testing, I've
narrowed down the crash-to-text-console a bit...

* I can switch workareas OK
* I can launch individual apps OK
* The crashes always happen when I try to open a submenu. Clicking on
the associated icon crashes immediately to text console. The submenu
does not open up. Question... has icewm menu syntax changed recently?

  Here's a fragment of .icewm/toolbar (and the .icewm/menu symlink)

I can successfully launch the first 10 items by clicking on the icon,
but clicking on the "NETAIR" icon crashes to text console immediately.
One thing I noticed that may not be relavant... emerging icewm-1.4.2
allows giflib to be depcleaned. Emerging icewm-1.3.8 pulls in giflib
again. I did try icewm-1.4.2, with giflib present, but that did not
change anything. "emerge --info icewm" output is attached.
