Possibly you could try hand creating this file, but if possible you might be better off recycling the system alltogether.

Yes, that makes sense. I am still booted from the boot CD on initial install. I am remote and attempting to build as much of the software as I can. Copying this file from the bootcd virtual filesystem seems to work ... fortunately, it didn't actually hose the network setup when it tried to start net.eth0.
