And at about the same time this was reported to bugzilla [1]. The problem is that the dev who commited the ebuild hasn't uploaded the patchset yet. The solution was to package.mask the ebuild. You could have done the same manually by adding the ebuild to /etc/portage/package.mask: # echo =sys-devel/binutils-2.16.1-r3 >> /etc/portage/package.mask Don't do this now as it has been done in the tree but that would be the proper solution if you weren't going to file a bug anyway, rather than asking this list if others were experiencing the same bug.
