While doing some investigating I found over 40000 files in /var/tmp/ccache named tmp.hash.<hostname>.<number> and tmp.stderr.<hostname>.<number>. These files seem to be cache files that are for some reason not being stored in the cache index located at /var/tmp/ccahce/[0-9a-e]/[0-9a-e]. It seems that ccache is caching data but not storing it correctly and therefore cannot retrieve it.
