Actually the most likely cause is bug #101433 [1]. Which means he needs to upgrade his sandbox: # FEATURES=-sandbox emerge --oneshot sandbox After that he should have no issues with emerging gnupg without disabling sandbox. [1] http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101433 -- Bo Andresen
