I just emerged sys-apps/hwinfo-14.19 and it worked for me. I'm on
~amd64, default/linux/amd64/2008.0/desktop, gcc-4.3.2,
glibc-2.9_p20081201-r1, 2.6.28-gentoo x86_64.
