Sorry for the slow response but basically Andrea is right, spatialite
support at this point is pretty experimental. But i will say I am generally
able to get it to work fairly easily on linux ensuring that the java
environment can see the necessary dependent libs (via LD_LIBRARY_PATH and
java.library.path).
But I agree if you don't specifically need spatialite, h2 is a nice little
embedded database option.
