Unless you can do that it is difficult to know whether it is the
display setup or the file.
The display aspect ration (DAR) may be being achieved with non-square
pixels, and it may be that your player will not handle them. The
relationship between the aspect ratios is explained here.

ffprobe -i=<filename>
or the Windows version of mediainfo can be used to show the aspect
ratios. You can use ffmpeg to change the shape of the pixels. As far
as I know it is done by modifying the container without re-encoding, so
it should be fairly fast.
